Sandy Springs is a demographically diverse community covering a 38-square-mile area in North Fulton County, Georgia. Sandy Springs is the second largest city in the metropolitan Atlanta area, and is the sixth largest city in the State of Georgia. While the City’s residential population is close to 97,000, the daytime population swells to more than 200,000 due to the concentration of major corporations and businesses located within Sandy Springs. The City is home to more than 40 percent of the available hospital beds in the metropolitan Atlanta area and is proud to be the home of Northside Hospital, Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Sandy Springs is a trailblazer in government structure and function. Rather than hire hundreds of government employees, the City utilizes a highly acclaimed Public-Private Partnership model, resulting in the state’s lowest per capita ratio of municipal employees to residents of 1.51 per 1,000. All staff, outside of public safety and senior City leadership, is employed by private companies.
Sandy Springs Fire Department
As a relatively new city, Sandy Springs has focused on providing the most effective and efficient services possible. This philosophy carries over into the City’s public safety operations. Currently, the Sandy Springs Fire Department, which launched on December 29, 2006, has 135 firefighters, including 85 fulltime and 50 part-time Fire/Rescue personnel, operating out of four stations throughout the community. The Sandy Springs Fire Department has an active training program and is 100 percent compliant with NFPA Standard 1001 with an average of 11 years of service by a Sandy Springs firefighter.
SSFD responds to over 10,000 calls each year and places a strong emphasis on emergency medical services (EMS). The SSFD protects more than 40 percent of the available hospital beds in the Metro Atlanta area. Further, the department is responsible for the protection of the 5th busiest stretch of the U.S. Interstate Highway System – Interstate 285. Sandy Springs has more than 43,000 housing units (92 percent occupied and 59 percent multi-family dwellings) and 22,000,000 square feet of office space, ranging from single story office parks to more than 125 high rise buildings (more than four stories). Since inception SSFR has fought over 287 building fires.

The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Executive Administrative Assistant and assigned department. Duties will include: management of office operations and administrative activities; assistance to citizens and the general public; support of departmental functions and staff; information dissemination and other duties as assigned.
